President’s Trophy

Holders Ormskirk won their opening two matches in a competition being played this season online. In the first match Warrington were beaten 46-40 with 20 points from Pat Gibson. In the second match Wirral were beaten 56-44 with 22 from Pat and 17 from John Wilson.

British Quiz Championships

Belated congratulations to Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers) who became British Champion for the sixth time last month, winning by one point. Well done also to Alan Gibbs (Unison) who finished inside the top 20.

Highlights Online Quiz week 7

In the final week of matches Colly Wobblers finish on top after a win over Gang of Four; Pat Gibson (17) and Mike Unsworth (16) led the scoring for the winners while Matt Cochrane replied with 15 points for Gang of Four.   Unison finish second after overcoming Squigglers; Darren Martin (18), Alan Gibbs (17) and Charles Johnson (16) scored well for Unison and Barry Marshall (15) did likewise for Squigglers. In a close game Whippet overcame Ormskirk Tennis Club; Debbie Davidson’s 19 points was a significant factor in their win. Many thanks to Rugby Hounds for setting the questions and officiating.

In the top of the table clash, Colly Wobblers narrowly beat Unison in a high scoring game; Pat Gibson (19 points and a full house) and Gary Grant (16) top scored for Colly Wobblers, while Darren Martin (19) and Alan Gibbs (16) did likewise for Unison.  20 points from Barry Marshall and 19 from Janet Crompton assured Squigglers win over Whippet.  Despite 21 points from Eric Lupton, Rugby Hounds lost to Ormskirk Tennis Club for whom Paul Prior scored 17 and Sarah Lawton 15. Many thanks to Gang of Four for setting an accessible quiz and officiating so well.

Highlights Online Quiz week 5

Unison go top of the table after their win over Whippet; Alan Gibbs again top scored for Unison with 17 while Peter Duffy replied with 15 for Whippet. 20 points from Paul Prior wasn’t enough for Ormskirk Tennis Club who lost out to Squigglers; Magnus Brass (missing out by one on a full house) scored 18 and Janet Crompton 16 for the winners. In a very tight game throughout Gang of Four overcame Rugby Hounds by the narrowest of margins; Eric Lupton led the scoring with 16 points.
