Highlights Week 10

Division 1:- An outstanding 24 points and ‘full house’ from Roy Atherton and 16 from Sue Perks saw Robin Hood thrash Colly Wobblers. All of Rugby Hounds players registered double figure scores in their win over Helenians; Eric Lupton (17), Bruce Covey (15) and Colin McDonald (15) were the leading scorers for Rugby Hounds.  Despite 21 points from Bill Gerrard, Abbey Sinners lost to Unison for whom Darren Martin scored 19; as a result Unison move to the top of the table.  Greyhound beat Abbey Saints; John Wilson top scoring with 21 points.

Division 2:- 18 points from Adrian Disley ensured Red Lion Bulldogs’ victory over Ormskirk Tennis Club.  In the other games Gang of Four beat Ormskirk Farmers, OCC beat Aughton Institute and Benchwarmers won the day over Parbold Exiles. 

Highlights Week 9

Division 1:- 17 points from Darren Martin and 16 from Alan Gibbs saw Unison home against Newburgh Lions for whom Jim Maloney scored 15. Rugby Hounds beat Robin Hood, David Hodgson scored 16 and Sue Perks 18 for the winners and losers respectively. Greyhound beat Colly Wobblers; John Wilson scoring 17 for Greyhound and Pat Gibson 15 for Colly Wobblers. The ‘Abbey Derby’ ended in a draw; Bill Gerrard and Francis Williams scoring 15 points each for the Sinners.

Division 2:- An impressive 24 points from Gordon Richards was the main contribution to Whippet’s winning performance over Red Lion Bulldogs. Parbold Exiles beat a depleted Gang of Four, Jim Dawber scoring 21 points for the winners. In other games Ormskirk Farmers had the narrowest of victories over Aughton Institute and OCC beat Ormskirk Theatre Company.

Fifteen To One

Alan Gibbs (Unison) won an episode on the fourth series with a score of 203. This earned him a place in the Grand Final which can be seen on demand.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

In the second matches at the group stage both Ormskirk teams won and continue unbeaten at the top of their respective groups. Unison beat Bishop Eton (Liverpool) 48-36, Darren Martin scoring 19.

The first three rounds of the match between Colly Wobblers and Wandering Star (Liverpool) produced what is possibly a unique set of scores - 11-0, 20-1 and 31-2. Colly Wobblers won 57-24 with Pat Gibson scoring 21 and Mike Unsworth 15.

Highlights Week 8

Division 1:- 18 points from Jim Maloney and 16 from John Purslow was enough for Newburgh Lions to overcome Abbey Saints. Despite 15 from Bill Gerrard, Abbey Sinners lost by the narrowest of margins to Colly Wobblers who remain unbeaten at the top. Unison beat Squigglers; Darren Martin scoring 20 for Unison and Janet Crompton 19 and Brian Fitton 15 for Squigglers. Greyhound lost to Rugby Hounds, David Hodgson and Eric Lupton both scoring 16 points for the winners.

Division 2:- 15 points each from Frank and Steve Molyneux saw Ormskirk Farmers victorious over Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Alan Thompson scored 15. Despite 18 points from Rob Green Benchwarmers lost to Whippet who remain top. In other games Gang of Four beat Aughton Institute and Ormskirk Tennis Club beat Parbold Exiles.
