The delayed 2019-2020 Merseyside heat was played last night. Six of the thirty two players were from Ormskirk. John Wilson (Greyhound) and Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers), the holder, have qualified for the final with Karl Whelan from Wirral and Mark Kerr from Liverpool. All the results are here.

Handicap League Week 6

In the top of the table clash, Rugby Hounds hung on to their seven point start to win by five over Whippet and replace them at the top of the table; Eric Lupton scored 18 for the winners and Peter Duffy did similarly for Whippet for whom Gordon Richards scored 15.  19 points from Pat Gibson and 18 from Mike Unsworth helped Colly Wobblers overcome the 22 point start on Ormskirk Theatre Company, in the end winning by 21. Despite 16 points from Janet Crompton, Squigglers only clawed back two on Robin Hood’s seven point start. Gang of Four had a 22 point start on Unison and held on to win by six; Rob Jones scored 15 for the winners.

The fourth episode in the new series of Who Wants to be a Millionaire features the story of Pat Gibson's win from 2004. It is on ITV on Sunday the 13th at 7 pm.

President's Trophy

Ormskirk continued their unbeaten run with two victories in the third set of matches. Warrington were beaten 51-45 with Pat Gibson scoring 20 points. Liverpool were then beaten 55-48 with 16 points each from Pat and John Wilson.

Handicap League Week 5

Whippet lost their first game by two points having started with a ten point lead on Unison, but retain top spot; Alan Gibbs (20) and Darren Martin (18) scored well for the winners, while Debbie Davidson contributed 16 to Whippet’s score.   Despite 18 points and a full house from Gary Grant and 15 from Mike Unsworth, Colly Wobblers failed by two to catch Gang of Four’s 22 point start.   Squigglers, for whom Barry Marshall scored 17 and Janet Crompton 16, only clawed back one point on Rugby Hounds seven point start; Eric Lupton scored 18 for the winners. 15 points each from Sarah Lawton and Paul Prior helped Ormskirk Tennis Club overcome the five point start on Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Alan Thompson scored 18.
