MIMIR Trophy

Three Ormskirk players have qualified for the Final which will be played in Thingwall on May 14th.

Congratulations to Peter Duffy (Unison), Alan Gibbs (Wheatsheaf) and Pat Gibson (Old Dog). The other finalist is Dag Griffiths from Southport & Formby.

Highlights Final Week

Division 1 :- Old Dog beat Gang of Four thanks to 16 from Ray Oakes. Unison had a comfortable win over Farmers Arms, Darren Martin scoring 17 and Madeline Evans 16 for the winners; Charles Johnson replied with 17 for the losers.  Wheatsheaf finish 3rd after their win over Rugby Hounds, Alan Gibbs and David Hodgson scoring 15 for the winners and losers respectively. Greyhound confirmed 4th place beating Robin Hood; Mal Collier scored 15 for Greyhound. Squigglers beat Ormskirk Tennis Club thanks to 20 points from Janet Crompton. In a very close game Helenians, who had led all the way, succumbed in the last round to Colly Wobblers. 

Division 2 :- Newburgh Lions win Division 2 thanks largely to a staggering 31 points from Jim Maloney; Alan Thompson replied with 18 for Ormskirk Theatre Company.  Abbey Saints (with only three players) confirmed second place with a win over Ormskirk Farmers; Barbara Flaherty scoring 16 for the Saints. Abbey Sinners stay 3rd despite losing narrowly to Parbold Exiles for whom Jim Dawber scored 18. Whippet finish 4th after their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Brian Yates registering 16 for Whippet. In the other games OCC beat Benchwarmers and Red Lion (Burscough) beat Aughton Institute.

Highlights Week 21

Division 1:- Old Dog are champions of Division 1 after their win over Farmers Arms, John Wilson scoring 19.  In a postponed game, the battle for second place was won by Unison who beat Wheatsheaf thanks to 19 and a ‘full house’ from Darren Martin and 15 from Peter Duffy; Dave Waddilove scored 17 and also a 'full house' for Wheatsheaf.  Unison also beat Greyhound to ensure second place; Darren Martin scored 19 for the winners and Mal Collier registered 20 and a ‘full house' for the losers. Wheatsheaf secured third place with a win over Colly Wobblers thanks to 24 and a ‘full house’ from Alan Gibbs. Despite 23 from Janet Crompton, Squigglers lost to Robin Hood for whom Sue Perks scored 15. Paul Prior’s 20 points wasn’t enough for Ormskirk Tennis Club who lost to Rugby Hounds. 

Division 2:- Newburgh Lions stay top after their win over Whippet (again with only 3 players), Jim Maloney scoring 20 for the winners.  Abbey Saints stay second after their win over Aughton Institute for whom Gordon Richards scored 20; Barbara Flaherty scored 17 for the Saints. Alan Thompson’s 20 points ensured victory for Ormskirk Theatre Company over OCC.
