Ormskirk Quiz League

Of the three Ormskirk players who reached the semi-final stage only Alan Gibbs made it through to the final. The winner after a three-way tie break was Jim Eccleson from Wirral  who won his fourth title 28 years after his third win.

The first two rounds took place last night. All six Ormskirk players finished in the first two places in their heat in Round 1, so qualifying for Round 2, a feat double that of any other League.

Alan Gibbs, Darren Martin and John Wilson have qualified from Round 2 for the semi-finals next Wednesday. Hard luck to Debbie Davidson, Paul Prior and Alan Thompson who played well, but just missed out.

Congratulations to Helenians who won the Trophy 52-42 against Turks Head Sinners who were unable to overcome a 7 point start. Mike Flaherty scored 17 points for Helenians and Bill Gerrard 23 points for Sinners. This is Helenians first win after being runner-up in 1980 and 1994.

Congratulations also to Turks Head Saints who beat a depleted Benchwarmers 61-38 to win the Plate thanks to sizeable contributions from Kevin Walton (17), Mike Critchley and Barbara Flaherty (both 15). This is the team's second win, firstly as Abbey Saints in 2018.

Thanks to the neutral officials who gave up their evening. 

13 players entered the MIMIR individual competition played at The Greyhound tonight. Darren Martin emerged as the winner, so congratulations to him. Runners up in the final were John Wilson and Alan Gibbs two points behind with Eric Lupton in fourth place. These four plus Charles Johnson and Debbie Davidson progress to the Merseyside MIMIR finals in a week's time.
