Ormskirk Quiz League

Nine Ormskirk players entered the heats stage of this online competition which is replacing the MIMIR Trophy for this season.

All nine finished in the top five in their heat and qualify for the semi finals which will be played next Monday, followed by the final.

Unison won their final match against Aardvarks (Wirral) 54-41, Darren Martin and Charles Johnson each scoring 17 points to extend their lead at the top of the table.

In the battle for second place Colly Wobblers and Greyhound drew 52-52. Pat Gibson (18) and Mike Unsworth(15) scored well for Colly Wobblers as did John Wilson (19) for Greyhound, who finish second by one point.

Unison strengthened their position at the top of the table with a three point win, 51-48, against second place Colly Wobblers. Darren Martin with 16 and Alan Gibbs with 15 were the leading scorers for the winners. Pat Gibson scored 20 for the losers.

Greyhound beat Aigburth People (Liverpool) 49-47 with all four players in double figures.

In the top of the table clash, Unison, all of whose players registered double figure scores, failed by one to catch Whippet’s 7 point start and as a result Whippet win the league, so congratulations to them.   Despite 18 points from Pat Gibson, Colly Wobblers were unable to claw back Squigglers’ 14 point advantage losing by six; Janet Crompton scored 16 for Squigglers who finish in 3rd place.   18 points each from Colin MacDonald (who failed on his last question to achieve a full house) and Eric Lupton, greatly helped Rugby Hounds’ comfortable win over Ormskirk Tennis Club.   Robin Hood overcame Ormskirk Theatre Company’s 8 point start to win by 13; Paul Coffey scored 18 for the winners and Alan Thompson 16 for the losing team.

Whippet and Unison play each other on Monday in the final week of matches in Phase 3 of the Ormskirk Online League. The winner wins Phase 3.
