Highlights Week 6

Division 1:- 17 points from David Sinclair helped Newburgh Lions to a draw with Colly Wobblers who remain top.   All four Greyhound players scored in double figures as they went on to beat Rugby Hounds. 17 points from Alf Westwell enabled Helenians’ win over Squigglers, for whom Janet Crompton scored 15.  18 points from Charles Johnson and 15 from Darren Martin assured Unison’s victory over Ormskirk Tennis Club. Robin Hood, thanks to 17 from Barbara Phillips, saw off Whippet. 

Division 2 :- Despite 16 points from Rob Green, Benchwarmers lost to Ormskirk Farmers. 16 points from Barbara Flaherty and 13 from Kevin Walton helped Abbey Saints overcome Ormskirk Theatre Company for whom Alan Thompson scored 14. Bill Gerrard’s 18 points was a major factor in Abbey Sinners’ win over Legion Lions; Steve Garrett contributed 13 to the Legion’s total. In the other game Parbold Exiles beat Aughton Institute.

Merseyside Challenge Cup

In the first round of games in the group stages of the competition both Ormskirk teams won. Unison beat WSC Woodworms of the Warrington league, thanks to 19 points from Darren Martin.  Colly Wobblers were victorious against Judges from Liverpool division 1; Pat Gibson (24) and a 'full house' and Andy McGowan (17) led the scoring for the Ormskirk team. In the next round of games in November all four competing Ormskirk teams will be in action - Unison, Colly Wobblers plus Greyhound and Abbey Sinners

Highlights Week 5

Division 1 :-Colly Wobblers stay top after their win over Squigglers; Pat Gibson (19) and Mike Unsworth (15) led the scoring for the winning team. 19 points from Darren Martin and 16 from Dave Kenrick, ensured Unison’s victory over Rugby Hounds, for whom Eric Lupton scored 18. 19 points and a ‘full house’ from Gordon Richards, greatly helped Whippet to overcome Helenians, for whom Dave Boyd scored 16.  Robin Hood, thanks to 15 points from Tom Evans, beat Ormskirk Tennis Club. Despite 20 points from John Wilson Greyhound lost to Newburgh Lions, for whom Jim Maloney contributed 19 points.

Division 2 :- Gang of Four march on undefeated after their win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Matt Cochrane scored 16 for the winners and Alan Thompson 15 for the losers. A very impressive 22 points and a ‘full house’ from Barbara Flaherty, ensured Abbey Saints'  win over Ormskirk Farmers for whom Dave Berrington scored 18. 16 points from Jim Dawber helped Parbold Exiles overcome Abbey Sinners. In the other game Aughton Institue beat Benchwarmers.

President’s Shield

In the second set of matches Ormskirk lost a close match to Warrington 36-42, but overcame a deficit going into the last round to beat Southport & Formby 36-35. Bill Gerrard scored well in the first match as did Alf Westwell in the second match.

Highlights Week 4

Division 1 :- In the top of the table clash, Greyhound, for whom Andy Francis scored 21 and John Wilson 16, lost to Colly Wobblers; Pat Gibson (21) and Mike Unsworth (18) led the scoring for the home team.   Despite 19 points from David Sinclair, Newburgh Lions lost to Unison for whom Madeline Evans scored 17 and Darren Martin 16. 15 points each from Tom Evans and Mike Preston enabled Robin Hood’s narrow win over Rugby Hounds for whom David Hodgson scored 20. 15 points from Debbie Davidson wasn’t enough to prevent a three man Whippet losing to Squigglers. In the other game Helenians beat Ormskirk Tennis Club.

Division 2 :- Despite 18 points from Dave Berrington, Ormskirk Farmers lost their first game of the season to Gang of Four who maintained their 100% record and stay top. An impressive 24 points from Bill Gerrard greatly helped a three man Abbey Sinners overcome Benchwarmers, for whom Rob Green scored 18.  Parbold Exiles, for whom Jim Dawber scored 17, drew with Legion Lions; Steve Garrett scoring 13 for the Legion.  Abbey Saints, thanks to 17 from Kevin Walton beat Aughton Institute
