Mimir Competition

The Mimir competition took place on Wednesday night with 16 players competing for the Ormskirk individual title. The final four were Gary Grant (Colly Wobblers), Darren Martin (Unison), John Wilson (Greyhound) and Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers). Pat emerged in first place, to win his fourth successive Ormskirk individual title with 18 points. Joint second were Darren and John with 13 points each, while Gary finished a creditable fourth on his first appearance in the Mimir competition. Highlights Week 16

Division 1 :- In the top of the table clash Unison overcame a 2 point deficit going into the last round to win by 2 points; Pat Gibson scored 23 points for Colly Wobblers.  In spite of 19 points from Dave Sinclair, a three man Newburgh Lions lost to Helenians, who recorded their second win of the season but remain rooted to the bottom of the table. 18 points from David Hodgson and 15 from Eric Lupton ensured Rugby Hounds’ victory over Ormskirk Tennis Club for whom Paul Prior scored 20.  21 points from John Wilson helped Greyhound to a win over Robin Hood, for whom Paul McAteer scored 15 on his first appearance this season.  In the Turks Head derby, the Saints, all of whose players registered double figure scores, lost by a single points to the Sinners; Bill Gerrard scored 16 for the winners. 

Division 2 :- Whippet maintained their 100% record with a win over Benchwarmers; Debbie Davidson (16) and Steven Illingworth (12) top scored for Whippet, while Mike Wall scored 12 for Benchwarmers.  15 points from Dave Berrington helped Ormskirk Farmers to a win over Squigglers for whom Janet Crompton scored 16. An impressive 21 points from Steve Garrett greatly helped Legion Lions, who only fielded three players, to a win over Bispham Farmers Arms; Jim Dawber with 13, top scored for the losers.  Ormskirk Theatre Company, thanks to 14 from Alan Thompson, won the day against Aughton Institute.

Highlights Week 15

Division 1 :- A full house and 18 points from John Wilson and 17 from Andy Francis assured Greyhound’s win over Newburgh Lions, for whom Dave Sinclair also scored 18.   Even though Bill Gerrard scored 21 points, Turks Head Sinners lost to Colly Wobblers, who remain in second place. Still top and unbeaten, Unison, thanks to 19 from Darren Martin, overcame Rugby Hounds; Eric Lupton scoring 16 for the losing team.  21 points from Paul Prior made the difference in Ormskirk Tennis Club’s win over Helenians.  Robin Hood, despite 16 from Sue Perks, lost to Turks Head Saints. 

Division 2 :- Whippet remain top of the table after their win over Aughton Institute; Debbie Davidson (16) and Gordon Richards (15) top scored for Whippet.   Squigglers remain second after beating Gang of Four; Janet Crompton scored 18 for the winners and Rob Jones 13 for the losers. 17 points from Steve Garrett earned Legion Lions the narrowest of wins  against Ormskirk Farmers.   An impressive 22 points from Jim Dawber was a major factor in Bispham Farmers Arms’ win over Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Alan Thompson scored 17. 

Mimir Draw

The draw for the Mimir competition to be held on February 5th, was made last night and is as follows:-

President’s Trophy

Ormskirk need one point from their final two matches to retain the President’s Trophy following two wins in close high scoring matches. In the first Warrington were beaten 51-47 with 21 from Pat Gibson. Then Liverpool were beaten 48-44 with 15 from John Wilson.
