Highlights Week 14

Division 1 :- A full house and 23 points from Darren Martin ensured Unison’s victory Ormskirk Tennis Club, for whom Paul Prior scored 18.  22 points and a full house from Pat Gibson and 19 from Mike Unsworth helped Colly Wobblers to a win over Robin Hood. Despite 18 points from Bill Gerrard, Turks Head Sinners lost to Rugby Hounds. 15 points each from Dave Boyd and Mike Flaherty wasn’t enough to secure a win for Helenians over Greyhound; Mal Collier with 16 points top scored for Greyhound. Newburgh Lions overcame Turks Head Saints with David Sinclair scoring 16 for the winners and Kevin Walton also scoring 16 for the Saints.

Division 2 :- Whippet remain unbeaten and top of the table after a win over Ormskirk Theatre Company; Debbie Davidson (18) and Brian Yates (14) top scored for the winners. Squigglers remain second after a comfortable victory over Benchwarmers; Janet Crompton (20) and Barry Marshall (15) led the scoring for the winners while Mike Wall scored 15 for the losers. 14 points from Rob Jones and 13 from Matt Cochrane aided Gang of Four’s victory over Legion Lions for whom Steve Garrett contributed 17. Dave Berrington’s 12 points was enough to ensure Ormskirk Farmers’ success over Bispham Farmers Arms. 

President’s Shield

Ormskirk won both of their matches in the penultimate round to move into second place in the table, just three points behind Wirral who are the opponents in the final match (four points for a win).

In the first match Ormskirk beat Warrington 46-33, Francis Williams leading the way with 13. Southport & Formby were then beaten 46-36, with 17 from Bill Gerrard and 15 from Debbie Davidson.

Highlights Week 13

Division 1 :- Despite 17 points from David Sinclair, a three man Newburgh Lions lost to Colly Wobblers for whom Pat Gibson scored 18 and Mike Unsworth 16. Unison remain top after a comfortable win over Helenians, Darren Martin scoring 18 and Alan Gibbs 15, for the winners. 21 points from Bill Gerrard helped Turks Head Sinners to a one point victory over Ormskirk Tennis Club, for whom Paul Prior scored 19. 18 points from Eric Lupton helped Rugby Hounds secure a win over Robin Hood.  Greyhound, thanks to 16 from Peter Gately and 17 from John Wilson overcame Turks Head Saints for whom Barbara Flaherty scored 16.

Division 2 :- An impressive 25 points from Janet Crompton, earned Squigglers a comfortable win over Aughton Institute. Despite 18 points from Dave Berrington, Ormskirk Farmers lost to Gang of Four, for whom Matt Cochrane scored 14. Benchwarmers secured their second win of the season with a narrow victory over Legion Lions but still remain bottom of the table. 15 points each from Debbie Davidson and Brian Yates assured Whippet a win over Bispham Farmers Arms for whom Jim Dawber also scored 15.

Highlights Week 12

Division 1 :- Helenians had their first win of the season with a victory over Turks Head Saints; Dave Boyd scored 15 for the winners. An outstanding 26 points and ‘full house’ from David Sinclair assured Newburgh Lions’ win over Rugby Hounds, for whom David Hodgson scored 17. Despite 20 points from Bill Gerrard, Turks Head Sinners lost to Unison who remain unbeaten at the top of the table; Darren Martin scored 16 for the winners. Colly Wobblers beat Greyhound with John Wilson scoring 16 for the losing team. Robin Hood won by the narrowest of margins against Ormskirk Tennis Club; Sue Perks scored 18 for Robin Hood and Paul Prior 16 for the Tennis Club.

Division 2 :- 17 points from Barry Marshall and 16 from Janet Crompton enabled Squigglers a win over Ormskirk Theatre Company, for whom Alan Thompson scored an excellent 24 points. 16 points from Jim Dawber and 12 from Jeff Cullen helped Bispham Farmers Arms to a win over Gang of Four for whom Rob Jones scored 13. Though John Hesketh scored 14 points, Aughton Institute lost to Legion Lions whose top scorer was Irene Melling with12. Gerrard Molyneux’s 18 points made the difference in Ormskirk Farmers’ victory over Benchwarmers. 

Quizmaster

Fifteen players selected from successful competitors in five TV quiz shows were invited to take part in an ITV show on December 29 hosted by Jeremy Vine.

The two finalists were both winners of Who Wants to be a MIllionaire.

Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers) won the final round and was the overall winner.

It will be available on the ITV Hub for a few weeks.
