Charles Johnson (Unison) has qualified for the final of the MIMIR Trophy. The final will be played in Warrington on May 10th. His opponents are Rod Moore (Liverpool), Karl Whelan (Wirral) and Tom Farley (Southport & Formby). Pat Gibson (Colly Wobblers) was a losing semi-finalist. The other four Ormskirk qualifiers fell in the first round.

Division 1:-For the third time this season Greyhound defeated Unison by a single point and hence win league 1a; John Wilson (17) and Mal Collier (15) led the scoring for Greyhound while Darren Martin (18) and Dave Kenrick (15) were Unison’s leading scorers. An impressive 27 points and a second consecutive ‘full house’ from Pat Gibson assured Colly Wobblers win over Newburgh Lions, for whom Jim Maloney scored 16. Squigglers win league 1b after their victory over Robin Hood; Janet Crompton scored 20 for the winners. In the other game Helenians beat Abbey Sinners.
Division 2:- Ormskirk Tennis Club have won league 2a after their victory over a three man Gang of Four; Paul Prior scored 24 points for the winners and Rob Jones 17 for the losers. Ormskirk Theatre Company win league 2b after beating Legion Lions. Rob Green’s 16 points greatly helped Benchwarmers overcome Ormskirk Farmers.

An enjoyable evening saw two close semifinals and a final result in a one point victory for Debbie Davidson (Whippet) over Andy McGowan (Colly Wobblers). Close behind were Gordon Richards (Whippet) and Andy Francis (Greyhound).

The Southport & Formby League are holding their annual Charity Quiz on Friday March 24th at the Sands Hotel in Ainsdale starting at 8pm.
Their charity is Queenscourt Hospice.
